SINGING YOURSELF TO SLEEP - VAGUS NERVE

This is one I personally discovered several years ago while going through a stressful time. I could not shut my mind off at night. Intuitively, I began lightly singing and/or humming to distract myself from thinking. I quickly found it produced a deep relaxation that stopped my mind chatter and helped me fall asleep. You can't think of anything else while singing and the vibration is soothing. You will receive even more benefits if you purposely sing loudly throughout the day to relieve stress. Then at night, lightly hum to drift off to sleep. I was delighted when I discovered years later that singing stimulates the Vagus Nerve!
